Our expedition takes an exciting turn from our first encounter with Greenland’s majestic polar bears. Seeing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat evokes a profound sense of wonder and reminds us of the wild immensity that surrounds us.
It is in Svalbard (Norwegian archipelago) that we encounter the most bears. Summer is in full swing and the pack ice has melted … The bears have retreated to the coast or inland. We are lucky enough to see many of them from the icebreaker or in the Zodiac.
The aim is not to disturb them. Extreme care is taken to spot them from the boat’s bridge before any operations on land. Under no circumstances do we want to have a confrontation with a bear.
Equipped with a pistol and a rifle to ensure the safety of the expedition’s travellers in the event of danger, we traverse this breathtaking landscape with respect and vigilance, aware of the delicate balance between exploration and the preservation of this fragile ecosystem.
