Off to Iceland! From Paris, I’m off to the icy expanses of the Far North, with my first stopover in Iceland, the land of fire and ice. From Reykjavik, I’ll be boarding the icebreaker Commandant Charcot for 3 and a half months. The aim is to explore and introduce our passengers to the Arctic.
First itinerary: Reykjavik – Longyearbyen via the east coast of Greenland.
The east coast of Greenland is not easily approached and the fog prevents us from getting ashore easily. What’s more, in this early spring, the ice is getting thinner and thinner and it’s not possible to move around on it without risk. Several unsuccessful attempts to find our way around led us to change our plan and head further north.
We moved further north to Ittoqqortoormiit, where conditions were milder. Here we hike on the pack ice and visit the surrounding village!
We manage to hike and offer our passengers Zodiac trips in the fjords.
After these stopovers in Greenland, we’re off to Svalbard! The programme includes exploratory hikes. Magnificent landscapes, seals, whales and glaciers!
