For the 2024/2025 winter season, I would like to offer a new activity to my hiking companions. Indeed, the mountains are a place of sharing, enjoyment, thrills, emotions… but they are also dangerous.
That’s why I want to share with you my approach to mountain safety, particularly the main risk in the Tignes Val d’Isère area, which is the avalanche risk.
During a day trip, I suggest we immerse ourselves in this fascinating yet unpredictable world! Let’s put on our snowshoes and learn to read what the mountain hides from us. Together, we will try to learn or deepen our knowledge of snow science, avalanches, weather, and more.
With the help of an avalanche transceiver (DVA), a probe, and a shovel, we will practice avalanche victim search techniques. This exercise is both serious and highly engaging!
The spirit of the day is based on sharing, exchanging, and debunking certain myths about the dangers of the mountains.
This outing is open to everyone and can be particularly relevant for skiers who want to improve their terrain reading skills and approach off-piste excursions with more safety.
I will provide each participant with a DVA, shovel, and probe so everyone can practice during the day’s workshops.
I look forward to introducing you to this new activity, which I’m sure will bring you a lot of value!
